The goal of the task cards is to provide students with an opportunity to apply their word-solving strategies to independent work.  In the process, they acquire flexibility and automaticity with known information.  Due to the unique nature of the task cards and their connection to the language systems, students learn how to apply their knowledge in a new context.  Here, problem-solving activities require them to sort words according to structural and meaningful categories.
