Assisted Reading ––– Revised

Online

September 16, 17, and 18, 2026

Description

The Assisted Reading Tier 2 and Tier 3 small-group intervention supports early readers (first through second grade) who are struggling to keep up with their peers in reading. This intervention focuses on developing phonological awareness, a crucial skill for understanding the sounds in words. It includes explicit, systematic phonics instruction to help students understand the relationships between letters and sounds, enabling them to decode and encode words more effectively. Additionally, the intervention incorporates targeted reading activities that foster comprehension and fluency, as well as writing exercises that encourage students to reflect on and articulate their thoughts about the texts they read. By combining these elements, the Assisted Reading Intervention aims to establish a solid foundation in literacy, enhancing both confidence and competence in young readers. In this series, participants will: • Unpack the phases of the Assisted Reading Intervention framework (language phase, reading phase, and assessment and writing phase. • Receive resource materials to plan and implement the intervention, including: • Diagnostic assessments for teaching and organizing an assessment notebook. • Revised lesson planner and lesson guide sheets. • Revised word lists with picture cards and decodable sentences. • Metacognitive checklists. • Revised reading behavior checklist. • Teacher conference form. • Resources for developing prompts for writing about reading.
